Snow day!

We took Aiden to the snow today for the first time! We went to Frazier Park/Mt. Pinos which is only about an hour and a half from our house. It was just the right amount of snow for sledding, but not enough to build a snowman. Nevertheless, we all had a great time. There will be many snow trips in our future; Aiden had a fabulous time. I have a feeling he's going to be a little daredevil as he gets older too, he loved going down the hill by himself. Next year Ashton will be big enough to join us, it will be double the fun without a doubt!

This is the way to travel. A movie and a snack.

8 months old

Ashton is changing so much right now. He's really trying to figure out how to move. He scoots all over but you can tell that he really wants to get on all 4's and take off. Soon enough! He grabs for anything within reach and is increasingly curious about his surroundings.

Here's what he's been up to:

-He doesn’t drool. Instead of drooling when he teethes, his nose runs…like a faucet. I didn’t realize this until my friend Leane mentioned it. I just thought he had a perpetually runny nose and a cold that wouldn’t go away.

-Like I said, he’s trying to crawl. He has gotten onto all 4’s a few times and he scoots backwards. Aiden didn’t crawl until he was 10 months old so I’m very anxious to see if Ashton will be like Aiden or if he’ll be a mover and a shaker earlier than Aiden was.

-His new toy this month is a walker and mesh teether. He doesn’t move a whole lot in the walker yet. I put frozen fruit in the mesh teether and he loves it. I would imagine it feels pretty good on his gums.

-I've introduced him to some table foods this past week. He's likes everything I've given him so far and he's working on learning to chew.

-I started signing to him this month. Right now I'm signing eat, milk, more and water. I signed with Aiden and he began signing back to me around 1 year old.

-I took him to the doctor yesterday because for the past 3 weeks he’s been waking at night and screaming for an hour or more. Some nights he will scream for an hour, sleep for an hour and then wake again screaming. It’s exhausting! I’m getting headaches and break down into tears easily because I’m just so depleted. The doctor said he’s perfectly healthy so the problem must be night terrors (aka baby bad dreams). He's got a pretty great life...so I can't imagine why his dreams are so terrible, however, this is the diagnosis. The doctor suggested giving him Benedryl before bed and that should shift his sleep cycle so he doesn’t wake at 1AM every night and scream. I did this last night and he slept from 7PM-4:30AM, no waking! YAHOO! I fed him at 4:30AM and he went back to sleep until 6:45. I felt so rested today. I'm praying this continues!

-He was weighed yesterday at the doctor’s office. He tipped the scale at 17 pounds 15 ounces.

Biter biscuits are yummy!

Valentine's Day

We had a fun day on Saturday. We went to the Camarillo airport to have lunch at the Wayport Cafe and watch the planes come and go. Aiden always loves this local adventure. We had dinner at home and had yummy chocolate fondue (Aiden calls it fundue) for dessert. It was a fun, love filled day!

He was very anxious to find out what fondue was all about! Of course, he loved it!

Aiden Update

As Aiden was approaching his 3rd birthday many friends warned me that 3 is harder than 2…thankfully we’re not finding that to be true. He has matured so much in the past 6 months. We see changes in him every day and it’s so much fun!

He’s very interested in learning the days of the week. He likes to keep track of which days are work days and which days are weekends. He knows that Daddy isn’t home on work days and he whimpers a little when we tell him it’s a work day because he knows he won’t see Ron until dinner time.

He's interested in the alphabet. He's always asking what letter a particular word starts with or how to spell a word.

He has really been interested in volcanos the past few months. I take him to the library every week or so to check out new volcano books and DVDs. He loves learning all about them and can watch them erupt over and over. We've found that there are lots of volcano shows OnDemand, so he's pretty excited about that.

He makes up words all the time. This is demonstrated in the video below.

I quizzed him on a few fun things today:

What’s your name? Aiden

How old are you? 3 years old…3 and a half

What’s your favorite color? Um….cafe. (He speaks Spanish lately. That’s brown for you non-Spanish speakers).

What’s your favorite book? My volcano book.

Favorite TV show? Dora the Explorer

Who is your favorite friend at school? Jordan

Favorite thing to do at school? Make a mess with Jordan.

Favorite drink: water

Favorite snack: yogurt raisins

Favorite dessert: popsicles

Favorite fruit: fruit bowl (this is what he calls fruit salad)

What do you want to be when you grow up? I want to be a garbage man. (shocking!)

What was favorite part about Christmas? Getting my monster truck and street cleaner.

What’s your favorite thing to do with Ashton? Make him laugh.

Mom's Day

Today was Mom's Day at Aiden's preschool. All the moms came to school with their children. We got to see what their day is like and play along with them. We started the day with a prayer, the pledge of allegiance, a story and a Valentine's craft. Then the kids had indoor playtime followed by outdoor play time. After that we came inside to wash our hands and we all went to a tea the teachers had prepared. The kids sang an adorable "Mommy" song (see video below) and we noshed on some tasty snacks. It was such a fun day! We both enjoyed it very much!

Playing with his friend Jordan.

A few weeks ago the teacher gave the moms a heart to decorate for their child for Mom's Day. Here is a picture of the heart I decorated for Aiden. They were our place mats at the tea.

When we arrived at the tea, I saw the heart he made for me. I was shocked. It hadn't occurred to me that he would make a heart for me as well. His heart says "I love Mommy because she gives me healthy food like apples. Love, Aiden." I laughed out loud when I read it :)

Here's a video of the kids singing the "Mommy" song to the tune of the song "B-i-n-g-o". Then they said a prayer before we all had our snack. Aiden is not keen on getting up on the stage and performing. He wasn't interested in singing the song at school but he couldn't stop singing the song when we got home from school!
