And I mean that in a good way. I am beginning to think that this kid may become an engineer some day. When he lifts his garbage cans, he's very mechanical and precise. Watch this video, he'll tell you all about it!

Father's Day
We had a fun Father's Day! We spent a few hours at the Ventura Harbor having lunch, playing in the arcade and checking out the boats. Aiden loved it. We had dinner with my family that night. I'm so thankful for the wonderful man who is my children's father. He is as lucky to have them as they are to have him.
It was so nice of this woman to walk up and offer to take a family picture when she saw me shooting the boys...it's just too bad she had no idea how to work my camera even after I told her how to focus it. Such a bummer. We have so few family pictures and with this scenery, this one had potential. Humfph.

1 year old!
Ashton is 1 year old. Wow! Doesn't it seem like kids age much faster than adults do!?
This month:
June 17, 2009: 20 pounds 12 ounces and 32 inches long!
He's in the 25th% for weight and 97th% for height. Just based on the percentiles, you would think that this kid doesn't eat, but that's hardly the case. He's not finicky at all and eats anything I offer him. He's just a long and lean little boy!
He's all over the place!
This month:
- He started playing Peek-a-boo. His cousin Adena taught him how to do this when we visited them last month.
- He had his last bottle a week ago. He drinks everything from a sippy cup now. He's on whole milk too. No more mixing formula, yeah!
- He's cruising around and does well when he's holding onto something. It doesn't seem like he's that close to walking though, which is fine with me!

School's Out!
Today was Aiden's last day of preschool. They ended the day with an ice cream social and some singing for the parents. He will go to the same preschool next year. This summer he will go to vacation bible school for 1 week and then he will join a couple friends in a summer camp called Boys Club (just 2 days a week from 9-12) as well as swim lessons. It's going to be a fun summer!

4 years old
It really is amazing to me that 4 short years ago we started our journey as parents when we were blessed with our first son. A perfectly healthy, long and slender little boy with dark brown hair. He's grown into such a fun and loving child. We've seen him mature quite a bit this past year and it makes us so proud. He's clearly gone from toddler to preschooler and left his baby days in the dust. Since becoming a parent, birthdays have taken on a new meaning. The celebrations are fun for kids but they are milestones for parents. A "phew, we made it through another year" kind of feeling and a sense of accomplishment. It was a great day!
Aiden loves bugs and dirt. Every day he does on a hunt for slugs and comes to show me how many he found. Usually 5. He's loving and sensitive. He wears his heart on his sleeve and cries easily when he's upset. We've seen his self confidence grow tremendously this past year. He's proud of himself for his accomplishments, big and small. He loves to make new friends and go to new places. He's social and will talk to anybody. He continues to love all trucks, especially garbage trucks. He enjoys playing with his brother and cuddling and hugging me. He's a great eater. Off the top of my head, I can only think of one food that he does not like - tomatoes. He's beginning to understand religion and knows that it's Jesus on the cross when we walk into church. He's learning what it means to be patriotic. He says the pledge of allegiance every day at school and we have had many talks about the soldiers who have fought and continue to fight for our freedom to make this such a wonderful (and safe) place to live. In all honestly, he really has no choice but to be as patriotic as his parents are. :)
I took Aiden for his 4 year physical yesterday. They checked his hearing, vision and blood pressure and he got 2 shots. He was so happy to see Dr. Scherr. The first thing he said to him was "I got dressed all by myself today, I'm 4 years old now!" Then he shot his hand into the air for a high five.
On May 31, 2005 he was born at 8 pounds 1 ounce and 21 inches long.
On June 1, 2009 he was 43 inches tall (95th%) and weighs 40.2 pounds (90th%).
This year we had a big birthday party for Aiden at the beach. It was a lot of fun. The kids had a great time playing in the sand and water. My best friend Jennifer came to visit for the weekend and we all had a great time. We miss her already! She was a tremendous help to me with all the party prep because I got really sick a few days before the festivities. She was sooooooooo helpful!
