Hooray for sticker charts!

In our attempt to use some "Positive Discipline", we started using sticker charts in our house. We are doing them for 2 reasons. The sticker charts are on the fridge at his level so he can see them.

1. For months Aiden would get out of bed after the entire night time ritual (bath, books, talk about the day, hugs, kisses, etc.). He'd get up, we'd put him back, and so on. Sometimes this would last for an hour. It was so frustrating and tiring.

2. Aiden has been hitting other kids for some time now. Several doctors and teachers have explained that it's a stage and he will outgrow it, but that's difficult for me to accept because the behavior is so unacceptable.

So, Aiden has a chart for each of these issues. The bed time sticker chart worked the very first night! It's even working for nap time. It totally changed his sleeping habits and now he tells us when he's tired and wants to go to his room to sleep. Boy are we kicking ourselves for not doing this months ago! You live and learn, right? He received his first reward last week after filling up his sticker chart. He got a few books.

He's slower to warm with the hitting chart. It's worked on a few occasions, but it's not a sure bet, so this one will be a work in progress. He did get a sticker on Thursday though because he used gentle hands at school with the kids. Yeah!

So moms, if you haven't tried sticker charts, I'm a big advocate. It's working in our house!
